Why Upgrade Your Surron Ultra Bee Brakes?
The stock brakes on the Surron Ultra Bee are functional for casual riding, but if you're hitting trails, doing moto-style riding, or adding speed upgrades, better stopping power is a must. Upgrading your brakes is one of the safest and highest-impact mods you can do.
In this guide, we'll walk through how to install the most popular brake upgrades available for the Ultra Bee — including the front caliper, rear brake, brake lever set, and foot brake kits.
What You'll Need
- 5mm and 6mm Allen keys (hex wrenches)
- Torque wrench
- Brake bleeding kit (if replacing hydraulic lines)
- DOT 4 brake fluid or mineral oil (check your caliper spec)
- Clean rags and gloves
- Thread locker (blue Loctite)
Step 1: Remove the Wheel
Before accessing the brake caliper, you'll need to remove the relevant wheel. Use a 17mm socket to loosen the axle nut. Lift the bike and slide the axle out, then carefully remove the wheel. Set it aside on a clean surface.
Step 2: Remove the Stock Caliper
Using a 5mm Allen key, remove the two caliper mounting bolts. Slide the caliper off the rotor. If you're replacing the caliper entirely, disconnect the brake line by unscrewing the banjo bolt — have a rag ready to catch brake fluid.
Pro tip: Plug the brake line with a clean bolt or cap to minimize fluid loss and air entry while you work.
Step 3: Install the New Front Caliper
If you're installing an OEM Front Brake Caliper, align it with the caliper bracket on the fork. Thread in the mounting bolts by hand first, then torque to spec (typically 25–30 Nm). Reconnect the brake line banjo bolt with a new crush washer on each side. Torque the banjo bolt to 15–18 Nm.

Step 4: Install the Rear Brake
The rear brake on the Ultra Bee uses a similar caliper mounting system. Remove the old caliper, clean the mounting surface, and bolt up your new Surron Ultra Bee Rear Brake. If your upgrade includes a new rotor, bolt the rotor to the hub using the supplied bolts with blue Loctite — torque to 8–10 Nm in a star pattern.

Step 5: Upgrade the Brake Levers
Swap out your stock levers for the OEM Brake Lever Set for improved feel and adjustability. Loosen the perch clamp bolts on the handlebar, slide the old lever assembly off, and replace with the new set. Set lever reach to your preference before tightening.

Step 6: Bleed the Brakes
After any hydraulic brake work, bleeding is essential. Attach your brake bleeder to the caliper bleed nipple. Slowly pump the brake lever while your helper opens and closes the bleeder valve. Repeat until no air bubbles appear in the fluid line. Top off the reservoir and replace the cap.
Important: Never mix DOT fluid types. Check your caliper spec before adding fluid.
Bonus: Add a Foot Brake Kit
For a more moto-style setup, consider adding a foot brake to your Ultra Bee. The Moto Style Foot Brake Kit gives you right-foot rear brake control just like a full-size dirt bike — a huge advantage on technical terrain.
